Source

*Shenghui*, Volume 95.

Processing

First, take some calcined gypsum and pile it into a pointed mound in the center of the cauldron, allowing a small amount to trickle down the sides to cover the bottom of the cauldron. Then, take the powdered mercury and carefully sprinkle it over the mound, ensuring it does not scatter to the sides. When finished, grind in a small amount of sulfur powder to cover it. Cover the cauldron’s opening with a bowl, seal the seams on all sides with damp paper, and seal the top with clay according to the method. Wait for it to dry. Gradually apply 3–5 liang of fire beneath the cauldron; once the mixture begins to change color, increase the heat to 1 jin and continue heating for about half a day. Then add another 3 liang,Continue adding in this manner until the total reaches 4 jin. Stop adding fuel when the cauldron is uniformly red-hot from top to bottom. Gradually remove the fire, allow it to cool, then gently lift and remove the contents. The medicine will form a lump. Take 2 liang of licorice root and 5 sheng of water, decoct until reduced to 2 sheng, strain out the residue, and boil the medicine until completely dry to remove the fire toxicity. Once dry, grind it finely, wash it with water, and use boiled jujube pulp to form pills the size of a tung seed.
