Processing

Take the above six ingredients. Divide the honey into nine portions; mix one portion with frankincense and the other ingredients, then fill new bamboo tubes with the mixture—three to four large bamboo tubes should hold the entire amount;Next, use fresh white mulberry bark to tightly seal the openings of the bamboo tubes. Spread a mixture of black beans and barley soaked in water on the bottom of a large steamer, place the bamboo tubes on top, then cover them with another layer of the bean-barley mixture. Repeat this process, covering the bamboo tubes again in the same manner. Steam over low heat for one day, adding water 3–4 times.Steam until nightfall, then remove the tubes, pour out the medicine, and transfer it to a porcelain container. Place it in a drying basket and dry it over a fire for one night; if it is not yet dry, repeat the process until it is completely dry; Then take 1 fen of honey and mix it evenly with the medicine. Plug the opening with fresh white mulberry bark, sprinkle water over the mixture, and mix the beans and barley until evenly distributed. Steam again for one day as before, sprinkling hot water 3–4 times as previously described. Steam until nightfall, then remove and dry as before; repeat this process nine times—nine steams and nine dryings—until completely dry to form the decoction.
