Drug Formulation

3 liang of Eucommia bark, 3 liang of Fennel seed, 2 liang of Sichuan Aconite, 3 liang of Achyranthes root, 3 liang of Dipsacus root, 3 liang of Licorice root, 3 liang of Star Anise, 3 liang of Gastrodia seeds, 3 liang of Purple-tipped Flower, 3 liang of Psoralea seed, 3 liang of Cistanche, 3 liang of Prepared Rehmannia root, 1 liang of Wood Fragrance, 1 liang of Raw Dragon Bone, and 5 qian of Cistanche deserticola.

Processing

Coarsely crush the above herbs; deep-fry them in 240 liang of sesame oil until charred, remove the residue, and filter the oil. Refine the oil until a drop forms a bead when dropped into water. Add 100 liang of orpiment, stir until evenly mixed into a paste, then remove from heat and place in water to neutralize the toxic fumes before reheating to melt. Separately, mix: 5 qian of agarwood, 1 liang of frankincense, 1 liang of myrrh, 6 qian of deer antler (dehaired),1 liang of female cloves, and 4 liang of seahorse—a total of six ingredients weighing 8 liang and 1 qian. Grind them into a fine powder and sift through a sieve. For every 240 liang of ointment oil, mix in the above fine powder, stir well, and spread the mixture into sheets. The top layer should weigh 6 qian, the middle layer 4 qian, and polish the surface.
