Drug Formulation

Magnetite (from the White Pill Formula), Mica, Serpentine, and Licorice, each in equal parts (grind these into a fine powder; form into pills with glutinous rice paste, each the size of a soybean); Cinnabar (from the Black Pill Formula), Indigo Powder, Calcined Alum, and Euphorbia, each in equal parts (grind these into a fine powder; form into pills with glutinous rice paste boiled in vinegar, each the size of a longan seed).

Instructions for Use

First, prepare a decoction using lamp wick and administer 1 white pill; then thread 1 black pill onto a piece of coarse thread, prepare another decoction using lamp wick, and administer it until the patient begins to vomit;If vomiting does not occur, have the patient drink one mouthful of black plum water, followed by one mouthful of cold water. Then, the practitioner should strike the patient’s chest and back while gently tugging the thread, causing the patient to expel the cold water and produce a retching sound. Repeat this process 3–4 times; the black and white pills, along with the pathogenic roots and stagnant blood, will be expelled through vomiting and diarrhea. After vomiting, treatment must be administered according to the specific meridian affected.

Note

Use spring water from the summit of a very high mountain, or water from Wudang’s Huilong Spring, to boil the paste into pills; only then will they not dissolve.
