Drug Formulation

1 sheng of Shijunzi; Qingpi (roasted); Sanling (baked); E Zhu (baked); Huanglian; Hu Huanglian; Chuanlianzi; Wuti (roasted, ground); Zhike (roasted); Huanggingpi; Qingmuxiang; Maiya (roasted);Betel Nut (roasted), Cyperus Rhizome, Dried Tangerine Peel, Apricot Kernel (ground),Fennel (roasted), Evodia (roasted), Mercury Oxide, Croton Seed (seed removed, oil removed), Shenqu (roasted), Gentiana, Pomegranate Peel, Chebulic Myrobalan, Nutmeg, Southern Frankincense, Aloe, Toad (roasted),barley sprouts (roasted), indigo powder, white malt, dried ginger, Corydalis (roasted), cinnabar, ginger (roasted), curcuma, soapberry (charred), Chinese cornel, myrrh, galangal, dried lacquer (roasted until all smoke has dissipated), and cloves—all in equal parts (one formula adds orpiment, egg yolk, and rice flour).

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a powder. First, take 1 male pig’s stomach; place 1 sheng of Shijunzi pulp, 2–3 he of glutinous rice, and 2 he of non-glutinous rice into the pig’s stomach, steam until tender, then pound into a paste. Add the juice of 3–4 pig gallbladders and mix thoroughly. Then incorporate the medicinal powder, shape into patties, and pound 100 times in a mortar with a pestle until the color is uniform. Form into fine pills the size of a sesame seed.
