Drug Formulation

7 green mulberry twigs (each about 4 cun long), 7 willow twigs (each about 4 cun long), 7 pomegranate peel strips (each about 4 cun long), 7 peach twigs (each about 4 cun long), 7 plum twigs (each about 4 cun long), 5 qian of Podophyllum, 1 small handful of Artemisia annua, and 5 qian of red arrowroot (one formula omits Podophyllum and red arrowroot).

Instructions for Use

Use 1.5 sheng of a child’s urine and 7 stalks of scallion whites (with the tips and leaves removed). Decoct until reduced by half, then strain out the residue. Separately, add 1 fen each of benzoin and asafoetida, then decoct again until reduced to 1 zhan. Strain out the residue, mix in half a qian of cinnabar powder, 1 fen of areca nut powder, and 1 zi of musk. Divide into two doses and take as directed: one dose at the beginning of the fifth watch, and another at the third point of the fifth watch.By the hour of Sì, the worms will certainly be expelled; if they are red, the patient can be saved; if they are blue-black, the condition is incurable. Once expulsion begins, the patient must be given soft porridge or rice, kept warm, and allowed to rest.

Note

Avoid sexual activity, as well as raw, cold, or toxic foods.
