Drug Formulation

Atractylodes lancea (washed) 1 jin, green onions (with roots and fibrous roots, washed) 1 jin, Ephedra (with nodes intact) 4 liang, licorice 2 liang (roasted).

Processing

Place the scallions and Atractylodes in a mortar and pound them with a pestle until the scallion juices seep into a basin. Press firmly until heat is generated. Leave for half a month in winter, or 5–7 days in spring and summer, then remove. Stir-fry the scallion leaves in a wok until charred, sifting them out as you go until the Atractylodes is completely dry. Next, add the Ephedra and licorice and grind into a fine powder.
