Drug Formulation

Half a bowl of ash from amaranth (i.e., Chenopodium, sun-dried and burned to ash), half a bowl of buckwheat (burned to ash), and one bowl of weathered lime.

Processing

Mix the three ingredients together, pour in 3 bowls of liquid, and simmer over low heat until it becomes a paste. Remove from heat and combine with the following ingredients: 3 castor beans (pounded to remove oil), 60 croton seeds (pounded to remove oil), 19 black peppercorns (rubbed to remove coarse skin), 1 qian of realgar, and 1 qian of cinnabar. Grind these into a fine powder, mix thoroughly with the previous mixture, and store in a porcelain jar, protected from drafts.

Instructions for Use

Mix with a drop of vinegar until smooth. Dip a new goat-hair brush into the mixture and apply it to the tip of the tumor. For a tumor the size of a bowl, apply a dot the size of a longan seed; for one the size of a teacup, apply a dot the size of a soybean. Reapply frequently as it dries. The tumor will wither and fall off on its own. If a blood tumor ruptures, mix in hair ash; if a sebaceous cyst ruptures, mix in ash from burned white hemp bark. Protect the area externally with an ointment.
