Drug Formulation

1 liang of wheat bran, 2 liang of ephedra, 2 liang of rhubarb, 1 liang of scutellaria, 1 liang of mirabilite, 1 liang of soot from the bottom of a cauldron, 2 liang of soot from the stove flue, and 2 liang of dust from the roof beam.

Instructions for Use

Take 5 he of freshly drawn water and 1 pill of the powder; take it all at once. If the patient is thirsty, give only water; within a short while, chills will set in. Once the chills subside and sweat breaks out, the condition will resolve. The patient will be able to walk five zhang without feeling fatigued; at that point, take another pill.

Note

This medicine must be administered only when the patient is extremely thirsty—more so than usual; it is suitable only for those with intense thirst. If given to someone who is not thirsty, it will actually cause harm.
