Mix with sugar and have the child take it. After taking it several times, red spots will appear—this is a sign that the toxin is being eliminated. If ineffective, take it again. Spots will first appear on the head and face, then on the chest and abdomen, the lower back and belly, and finally the limbs; as they gradually emerge, the smallpox lesions will be sparse and white.
