Processing

Grind each of the above ingredients into a fine powder. Separately, grind camphor into a powder and place it in a copper basin. Cover it securely with a large bowl, seal the opening with damp cotton paper, and apply a thick layer of raw flour paste over the paper. Heat the mixture over low heat, keeping the pot about a fist’s height above the basin’s bottom. After a short while, when it has cooled and solidified, take the portion that has risen into the bowl—use 4 qian of this.First, melt the lard in a copper pot over a double boiler; add yellow and white beeswax, followed by lead powder, and stir until uniform. Remove from heat and add the dragon bone and other ingredients. Just before the mixture solidifies, add the mercury and stir vigorously—if stirred too slowly, it will sink to the bottom. Finally, add the camphor flakes and stir until thoroughly mixed; store in a porcelain jar until set.
