Instructions for Use

Coarsely chop the ingredients, taking care not to use iron utensils; place them together in a large earthenware pot with 20 bowls of water. Decoct until reduced to 7 bowls, then strain the liquid and set it aside. Re-decoct the herbal residue as before nine more times, yielding a total of 70 bowls of liquid; strain the residue thoroughly. In a separate medium-sized earthenware pot, add the 7 bowls of decoction and simmer over low heat. As the liquid reduces by 1 bowl, add 1 bowl of water. Repeat this process until all 63 bowls have been added; by then, the liquid will have become concentrated, yielding only 6 bowls of decoction. Next, take 1.5 jin of mountain white honey (with the wax removed) and combine it with the decoction in the earthenware pot. Simmer the mixture in a double boiler until it becomes so thick that not a single drop of water can be added without it dispersing; at this point, the paste is complete.Store it in a porcelain jar and bury it underground for 7 days. Remove it, then simmer it again for one day and one night as before, and bury it for one more night. Finally, divide it into small jars and seal them tightly. From the initial simmering through the final boiling, use only mulberry wood fire; the herbs themselves are commonplace, but the secret lies in the precise control of the heat.Take it at any time, mixed with fine liquor; it tastes delicious and offers numerous benefits. For those who restrain anger and curb desires, and who lead a secluded life, taking this ointment regularly can also help them live to a ripe old age.
