Drug Formulation

6 qian of Aconite Root (Cao Wu), 6 qian of Sichuan Lovage (Chuan Xiong), 6 qian of Rhubarb (Da Huang), 8 qian of Chinese Angelica (Dang Gui), 8 qian of Red Peony Root (Chi Sha), 8 qian of White Angelica (Bai Zhi), 8 qian of Forsythia (Lian Qiao), 8 qian of Bletilla (Bai Ji), 8 qian of White Atractylodes (Bai Lian), 8 qian of Eucommia (Wu Yao), 8 qian of Cassia Bark (Guan Gui), 8 qian of Trichosanthes Seed (Mu Bie Zi), 4 qian of Poplar (Yang), 4 qian of Willow (Liu),Peach 4 qian, Mulberry 4 qian, Jujube 4 qian (one formula adds 5 qian of Sophora flavescens and 5 qian of Sapindus).

Processing

Grind the ingredients into a powder. Soak the mixture in 2 jin of pure sesame oil overnight. Simmer over heat until the mixture turns a charred color. Strain through raw silk to remove the residue. Return the oil to the pot and simmer over alternating low and high heat until a drop of the oil forms a bead that does not disperse. Only then add 12 liang of sifted orpiment (which must be pre-roasted), adding it gradually and evenly until the mixture again forms beads that do not disperse when a drop is tested.Then add 4 qian each of powdered frankincense and myrrh, stir well, and set aside for use.

Instructions for Use

For conditions caused by invasion of wind, cold, and dampness; injuries from falls, blows, or sprains; and all types of pain, apply the poultice to the affected area; for chest and abdominal pain, apply it to the site of pain; for wheezing and coughing, apply it to the center of the back; for diarrhea and dysentery, apply it above the navel;for headaches and eye pain, apply to the temples; for all unexplained swellings and abscesses, boils on the back, sores and abscesses caused by damp toxins, swollen sores, and erysipelas, apply to the affected area as soon as symptoms appear to resolve them; even when fully developed, it can drain pus, promote tissue regeneration, and relieve pain.
