Divine Qi-Restoring Decoction,This formula capitalizes on the winter season when the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian (Cold Water) and the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian (Water) are at their peak. The “Son” (Bladder) nourishes the “Mother” (Kidney), causing the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian to become excessive and, in turn, overpower the Earth element. As a result, the Fire and Wood elements are affected by pathogenic factors, leading to obstruction and pain in the lower back, back, chest, and diaphragm; frequent sneezing; excessive saliva in the mouth;dryness in the eyes, incessant discharge of turbid nasal mucus—or a mass resembling a polyp—loss of sense of smell, coughing up frothy sputum, heat above like fire and heat below like ice, paroxysmal headaches, a fiery gleam in the eyes, blurred vision, deafness and tinnitus, extreme aversion to wind and cold in the head, mouth, and nose, preference for sunny and warm weather,restless sleep at night, a constant sensation of phlegm obstruction, difficulty swallowing, loss of taste, tightness and pain in both flanks, loose teeth making it impossible to chew, intermittent coldness in the area between the navel and abdomen, as well as in the buttocks, feet, and knees, coldness and excessive sweating in the genital area, unsteady gait, difficulty in daily activities, numbness and wind-induced arthralgia, frequent urination, shortness of breath and wheezing, insufficient breath to sustain breathing, and uncontrolled urinary incontinence;as well as in women with leukorrhea, severe pain in the vulva radiating to the heart, and a sallow, dark complexion; in men, testicular retraction with pain radiating to the heart and abdomen, or a face as red as ochre, poor appetite, irregular bowel and bladder movements, restlessness and diarrhea, counterflow of qi with abdominal cramping, and inability to strain during defecation. Drug Formulation

Dried Ginger (roasted) 3 fen, Black Aconite Root (roasted) 3 fen, Fangfeng 5 fen, Ginseng 5 fen, Prunus mume Seed (ground separately) 5 fen, Angelica sinensis Root 6 fen (washed with wine), Pinellia (washed in boiling water) 7 fen, Cimicifuga 7 fen, Ligusticum 8 fen, Licorice 8 fen, Bupleurum 1 qian, Notopterygium 1 qian, White Sunflower 5 blossoms (remove the center, cut into small pieces).

Instructions for Use

Prepare one dose as follows: Use 5 large bowls of water and decoct until reduced to 2 bowls. Add 1 qian of Astragalus, 5 fen of tangerine peel, and 1 qian of cardamom seeds (wrapped in flour and roasted until cooked, then peeled); decoct together until reduced to 1 bowl. Then add the following ingredients: 3 fen of Phellodendron bark (soaked in wine), 3 fen of Coptis (soaked in wine),3 fen of Zhi Ke, and 3 fen of Sheng Di Huang (washed with wine). These four ingredients should be soaked separately in fresh water one day in advance; additionally, combine 2 fen of Hua Xixin, 3 fen of finely ground Chuanxiong, and 3 fen of Manjingzi, and use this mixture to soak the aforementioned three ingredients along with Huang Bai and the others;Decoct the main formula to yield 1 large bowl of liquid; do not strain out the residue. Add the soaked herbs to this liquid, return to the heat, and decoct together until reduced to 1 large bowl. Strain and take while hot on an empty stomach. Take during the first and last days of the menstrual cycle, once every 3–5 days. In cases of acute illness, take as needed regardless of the time.

Note

It is advisable to eat meat, as it does not exacerbate fire pathogens in the meridians; avoid meat broth.
