Drug Formulation

1 liang of Southern Peppermint leaves, 5 qian of Tiannanxing (soaked thoroughly in hot water, sliced, and stir-fried with ginger juice), 3 qian of Ginger Silkworms, 5 qian of Southern Qianghuo, 2 qian of Schizonepeta spikes, 1 qian of Sichuan Pepper (seeds removed), 2 qian of Liaoning Asarum, 8 liang of Soapwort (scraped to remove bark and fibers), 2 liang of naphtha (genuine), and 1 liang of borax.

Processing

Place the first eight ingredients in a porcelain basin and soak them in 4 bowls of good sour soy sauce water (5 days in spring and autumn, 3 days in summer, and 7 days in winter). Just before boiling, strain out the residue and reserve the clear liquid. Transfer it to a silver or copper pot and boil over a mulberry wood fire, stirring frequently with locust or willow twigs;Boil until it comes to a boil several dozen times, then add the naphtha and borax. Continue boiling until it forms a paste with an amber-like color. While still hot, spread it onto thick, four-ply paper, allow it to dry, and store it.

Instructions for Use

When needed, cut a square piece about one square inch in size, dissolve it in warm water in a bowl, and use two reed tubes to blow the solution into both nostrils. After a while, the patient will vomit phlegm and saliva and regain consciousness. If the solution is blown in too forcefully or is too hot, causing a nosebleed, stop immediately and drink 1–2 sips of lightly salted water to stop the bleeding.
