Drug Formulation

He Shou Wu (half red, half white; first soak in rice washing water for two days and nights; then use a bamboo or copper knife to remove the coarse outer skin, slice into pieces, and sun-dry slightly until crisp—avoid contact with iron objects; mix evenly with black sesame seeds and steam once; sun-dry to remove the sesame seeds; next, take slices of black goat meat, remove tendons, membranes, and excess fat, mix well, and steam once; remove the goat meat and sun-dry; then soak in top-quality ash-free liquor until moist and steam once;then layer the He Shou Wu with black beans (one layer of each) and steam once more; remove the beans and dry in the sun.For all steaming steps, use a clay pot or willow steamer; mix thoroughly and steam until thoroughly cooked. Sun-dry, sort and clean, then grind into a fine powder using a stone mill (using 1 jin as the base). Prepared Rehmannia root, Asparagus root (soak these two ingredients in natural ginger juice for two days and nights, then sun-dry and set aside), Ginseng (remove the root stalk, grind into a fine powder) 5 qian,raw rehmannia root, and ophiopogon tuber (these two ingredients should be soaked in ash-free liquor for one day and one night; remove, then soak in rice washing water for another day and night; remove and sun-dry until slightly dry).The above four ingredients should all be ground with a stone mill into a slurry. Prepare a decoction using apricot kernels (with the skin and tips removed), dissolve the mixture in it, strain out the residue, and grind again until it resembles clear water-based starch. Allow it to settle, skim off the clear liquid, and sun-dry the resulting powder into a fine powder (1 liang each),White Poria (remove the coarse skin, grind into a powder; use a child’s urine to wash away the fibrous strands; soak in water from a clay-bottomed vessel overnight, then sun-dry and grind into a powder) 4 liang; Lycium Bark (remove the woody core, soak in ash-free wine for one day, strain, and grind into a fine powder) 1 liang; Achyranthes Root (remove the fibrous base, soak in ash-free wine for one day and one night, strain, and grind into a fine powder) 2 liang.

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Mix with 6 liang of good breast milk from a healthy woman nursing a healthy baby boy, and combine with refined honey to form pills the size of a Paulownia seed.

Instructions for Use

Take 50–60 pills each time, washed down with good, ash-free wine, once in the morning and once in the evening.

Note

Avoid all types of blood, tofu, radishes, garlic, lotus seed heads, lotus roots, and foods that promote blood stasis.
