Benefits

For eroded eyelids with tearing, red and inflamed eyes caused by wind, inverted eyelashes, external corneal opacities, and pterygium.

Instructions for Use

Grind the above ingredients into an extremely fine powder. Place 2.5 bowls of clean water in a large copper pot. Have two people, each holding a thin bamboo strip two fingers wide. When the decoction comes to a boil, have them continuously stir the entire surface and the bottom of the pot with the bamboo strips. If the decoction boils vigorously and sticks to the pot, have the two people on either side each hold half a zhan of clean water and quickly use the bamboo strips to scoop the water and wash off the stuck decoction; repeat this as the decoction boils again. If the heat becomes too intense, lift the pot to the side. Once the decoction has been thoroughly washed off, return it to the heat and simmer slowly until it reaches the consistency of a thick paste. Remove it from the heat, transfer it to a fine, delicate porcelain dish, and dry it thoroughly in the sun. The highest-quality product is one with a true yellow color. Grind it again and sift it into a fine powder, then store it in a narrow-mouthed porcelain jar. Seal the jar tightly to prevent air from entering; if exposed to air, it will become damp and eventually turn to liquid over time. This medicine is extremely difficult to prepare. If you do not wash and scrape the pot carefully, and the medicine sticks to the bottom or sides of the pot, it will burn to a charred black. When dried in the sun, it will turn green, and the medicine will definitely lose its efficacy, rendering it useless. Take 1 liang of top-quality genuine blue vitriol (with the coarse base removed and cleaned), 1 qian 5 fen of cinnabar (bright with distinct layers),Orpiment (top-grade, washed with water), grind them together into an extremely fine powder, and store it separately in a jar. When preparing the mixture, use a ratio of 2 parts herbal ingredients to 1 part mineral ingredients. Use a clean, pointed porcelain cup to mix the medicine: place about 1 fen of the powder in the cup, add a few drops of well water, and stir with a clean finger until thick. Then add more water to thin it, followed by a generous amount of water to cover the mixture by 3–4 fen, and mix thoroughly.Cover with paper for a short while; the solution may turn green. Using a new small sheep’s-wool brush or a chicken or goose feather, gently scoop up the clear liquid from the surface and apply it to the affected area. Repeat as many times as necessary; once it dries, apply again. For conditions such as eroded skin with tearing, red, inflamed eyes, or inverted eyelashes, wash only the external skin—do not allow the solution to enter the eye. The condition will resolve once the affected area is nearly completely cleansed. For ingrown eyelashes, wash the eyes 10 or so times daily; over time, the eyelids will wrinkle, and the lashes will grow outward. For external corneal opacities or pterygium, increase the dosage of mineral-based medicines slightly in severe cases. When washing the eyes, slightly open the corners of the eyes to allow the solution to penetrate. If pain occurs, soak a hand towel in hot water, steam the affected area, and gently wash it; the medicinal properties will disperse with the heat, and the pain will subside on its own. When removing membranes, opacities, or pterygium, check the progress frequently. If 70 percent has been removed, discontinue the previous medication and stop washing. Instead, use a vision-restoring formula for gentle, gradual washing; as the opacities and membranes gradually disappear, vision will naturally return. If you seek immediate clearance and use the medication too aggressively, you will certainly damage your eyes.

Note

While using this wash, strictly avoid alcohol and tofu; do not apply it on an empty stomach in the early morning; and pregnant women must not use it, as it may harm the baby’s eyes.
