Chinese Name : 香连膏

Drug Formulation

5 liang of Baisha honey (filtered through silk to remove sediment), 5 qian of realgar (clear and pure, ground), 1 qian of frankincense (ground), 1 qian of rock salt, 1 qian of lead丹, and 3 liang of Coptis (remove the stalks and grind into a fine powder).Take the above six ingredients (excluding the honey), add 3 zhan of freshly drawn water, and simmer together in a silver or stone vessel until reduced to 1 zhan. Then add the honey and continue simmering over low heat until it becomes a paste, stirring constantly. When the mixture becomes thread-like when pulled, strain through heavy silk to remove the residue, and store in a porcelain jar), half a qian of mercury, 1 qian of bismuth subnitrate,1 qian of borneol, and 1 qian of musk (ground).

Processing

In addition to the ointment described above, finely grind the latter four ingredients together until uniform, mix them into the ointment, and seal the mixture with three to five layers of oiled paper, securing it tightly. In spring, summer, and fall, suspend it from a hemp rope at the bottom of a well and retrieve it after 7 days; if prepared during the winter months, seal it in a shaded place for 14 days before retrieving it.
