Xuanfu Decoction,For beriberi. Symptoms include stubborn numbness and loss of sensation, weakness and limpness in both legs, swelling and lack of strength in the legs; in severe cases, distension in the lower abdomen, fullness and obstruction in the chest, vomiting upon seeing food, or paralysis of the thumbs of both hands or both feet, or difficult urination, with distension, vomiting, and inability to eat.

Chinese Name : 旋覆饮子

Drug Formulation

2 liang of Inula flower, 2 liang of tangerine peel, 3 liang of fresh ginger, 1 handful of Perilla stems, 3 liang of Poria, 1 sheng of fragrant fermented soybeans (wrapped in cotton), and 10 jujubes (split open).

Benefits

Symptoms include stubborn numbness and loss of sensation, weakness and limpness in both legs, swelling and lack of strength in the legs; in severe cases, distension in the lower abdomen, fullness and obstruction in the chest, vomiting upon seeing food, or paralysis of the thumbs of both hands or both feet, or difficult urination, with distension, vomiting, and inability to eat.

Instructions for Use

Boil 8 sheng of water until reduced to 2 sheng and 4 he; divide into 3 doses, taking each at intervals of 10 li. Take one dose per day for a total of 5 doses; this will relieve the symptoms.

Note

Avoid raw scallions and vinegar-based foods; exercise caution with raw and cold foods, pork, garlic, wheat products, fish, and sticky foods.
