Drug Formulation

2 liang Sichuan Coptis, 2 liang whole scorpion, 2 liang pangolin scales, 2 liang Scutellaria baicalensis, 2 liang Sichuan Phellodendron, 2 liang Angelica sinensis, 2 liang Angelica dahurica, 1 liang red peony root, 1 liang soursop (sliced), 1 liang raw Rehmannia root, 4 liang Cinnamomum cassia, 4 liang seaweed.

Processing

Decoct in water, strain out the residue, and add 22 liang of sesame oil. Pour the decoction into the oil and boil until all moisture has evaporated and the mixture forms beads when a drop of water is added. Then add 11 liang of cinnabar (roasted and sifted), stir until uniform to form a paste, then add 7 qian of beeswax, followed by 6 qian of asafoetida (sliced),mix them into the ointment and allow them to dissolve on their own. Once slightly cooled, add frankincense, myrrh (both with oil removed), and mercury oxide—6 qian each; musk, dragon’s blood, cinnabar, and realgar—2 qian each; male mouse feces—1 liang 5 qian; and the mud from the bottom of a swallow’s nest—1 liang. Grind all these ingredients into a fine powder, mix them into the ointment, and stir until uniform. Store for future use.
