Drug Formulation

Rhubarb 9 liang (use fresh, striped varieties; if slightly rotten, they are unsuitable; peel off the gray outer skin before use).

Processing

Grind the above into a powder, mix it with 3 sheng of high-quality rice vinegar, place it in a copper bowl, and set it over gently simmering water in a large cauldron heated by charcoal. Do not use a fierce flame; stir the mixture with a bamboo or wooden spatula. When the mixture is ready for forming into pills, roll it into pills the size of a paulownia seed and store them tightly sealed in a small porcelain container.

Instructions for Use

For a child aged 3, administer 7 pills twice daily. The treatment should continue until greenish-red pus is discharged; if no pus is discharged, or if only a small amount is discharged, gradually increase the dosage; if excessive pus is discharged, the dosage must be reduced. For severe cases, it may take 7–8 doses to completely eradicate the root cause. Dosages for adults and children differ; adjust accordingly.

Note

Avoid beef, horse meat, donkey meat, chicken, pork, fish, rabbit meat, raw or cold foods, sticky or slippery foods, greasy foods, adzuki beans, and buckwheat. Lactating mothers should also observe these dietary restrictions.
