Drug Formulation

Hua Rui Shi (calcined and ground to a fine powder) 2 liang, raw sulfur (finely ground) 2 liang, Huang Dan (finely ground) 2 liang, oyster shell (calcined and ground to a fine powder) 2 liang, clam powder (finely ground) 2 liang, natural copper 1 liang (calcined, quenched in vinegar, and finely ground.Grind the above 6 ingredients together until uniform. Add 32 liang of clear oil to a silver pot and simmer over a charcoal fire until 10 liang of oil has evaporated; then add the following herbs: 4 liang of Aconite (with skin and tip, used raw), 2 liang of Dipsacus (hairs removed), 2 liang of Stephania, 2 liang of Dragon Bone, 2 liang of Evodia, and 2 liang of Tiger Bone (if unavailable, substitute with 2 liang each of decayed turtle shell and Schisandra);Grind the above 6 ingredients into a fine powder, add to the oil from the previous step, and simmer until it becomes a thick paste; then add the following herbs) 2 liang, Frankincense 2 liang, Myrrh 2 liang, Dragon’s Blood 2 liang, White Gum 2 liang, Benzoin 2 liang.

Processing

Grind the last five ingredients into a fine powder, add them to the previous paste, and stir vigorously with a wooden pestle until well blended. Remove shortly thereafter, place in a porcelain container (do not cover), and let stand for three days until the heat subsides.
