Wind-heat ascending to the eyes, causing redness, swelling, and pain.

Instructions for Use

Soak the above herbs in 5 sheng of water—regardless of whether it is winter or summer—for one shichen, then remove them. Simmer in a silver vessel over low heat, taking care not to let it boil vigorously, until the vapor has dissipated and the liquid has reduced. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Strain the liquid through a silk cloth, let it settle in a draft-free, dry place for one shichen, then remove the sediment. Simmer in a silver vessel over low heat until the volume is reduced by half. Add half a jin of white honey, stirring continuously without stopping. Continue until a honey-like fragrance emerges; stop when a thread forms when lifted with a finger. Allow to cool, then filter again through a double-layered silk bag and store in a porcelain container.Take a quantity roughly the size of a tea spoon, grind one character’s worth of borneol into a very fine powder, mix it with the ointment, and grind together 1,000–2,000 times until uniform. Take a small amount and apply it as a spot treatment.
