Drug Formulation

80 pieces each of Sichuan Pangolin Scale, Elephant Skin, and Gardenia; 5 roots each of Sophora, Mulberry, Willow, and Elm; 5 peach branches (as thick as a finger, 5 cun long); 1 liang of women’s hair; 2 liang of Dragon’s Blood; 1 qian 5 fen of Realgar; 2 qian of Catechu; and 8 liang of Orpiment.

Processing

Soak all the ingredients listed before the peach branches in 20 liang of genuine sesame oil for 3 days, then simmer until the mixture turns charred black. Add the women’s hair and simmer until dissolved, then strain thoroughly. Remove the pangolin scales and elephant skin, grind them into a fine powder, and combine with 1 liang each of dragon’s blood, realgar, and catechu for future use.Weigh out exactly 16 liang of the oil, add 8 liang of finely ground orpiment to the oil, and simmer until a drop of the mixture forms a bead when dropped into water. When the mixture has cooled to lukewarm, add the fine powder of elephant skin and stir evenly. Then, dip the mixture into cold water and stretch it back and forth several dozen times before use.
