Chinese Name : 二葛四黄散

Drug Formulation

3 qian of rhubarb, 2 qian of Coptis, 2 qian of Scutellaria, 2 qian of Angelica, 2 qian of peony, 2 qian of kudzu starch, 1.5 qian of kudzu root, 1.5 qian of Phellodendron, 0.5 fen of calcined mercury, and 0.5 fen of licorice.

Processing

Grind the ingredients into a fine powder. Method for calcining mercury oxide: Place the mercury oxide in an earthenware vessel (amount unspecified), seal the opening with raw paper, apply paste to the edges of the paper, and adhere it to the outside of the vessel’s rim to prevent the powder from escaping, then place it over the fire;Set up a separate container of water; dip a finger into the water and flick it onto the paper covering. Wait until the water mark dries and the paper becomes taut, then flick water onto it again. Repeat this process 50 times. Remove from the heat, place on the ground to dispel the fire toxicity, then take out and set aside for use. Using this calcination method yields miraculous therapeutic results and prevents mouth sores.

Administer with a decoction such as Tu Fu Ling Decoction, taking 3–4 qian daily.
