Processing

Mix the gourd powder thoroughly with the ginseng powder. Then, take approximately 4–5 liang of the powdered Sichuan fritillary bulb and lotus seed meat, gradually adding them to the gourd and ginseng mixture while grinding as you go, until the mixture is perfectly uniform; set aside. Grind the four ingredients—citron, Jian Shenqu, soybean sprouts, and mulberry leaves—along with the remaining Sichuan fritillary bulb and lotus seed meat into a fine powder; set aside.First, decoct the Buddha’s Hand and jujube seeds to produce a concentrated decoction of about one large noodle bowl’s worth, to be used for forming the pills. When forming the pills, remove the seeds from the remaining herbs; once the mixture is half-formed, add the ginseng powder and other powders, then add the remaining herbs and continue forming until the pills are complete. Sun-dry and store them; it is advisable to line the bottom of the storage container with paper covered in mine ash to prevent mold. After rolling the herbal powder, roll the glutinous rice in the remaining decoction to prevent the powder from falling off. Each batch of these dry pills yields approximately 30 liang.
