Processing

Take the above four ingredients and soak them in one large tub of lard water in a porcelain vessel for 15 days. Transfer to a copper pot and boil until it has boiled several dozen times, then strain out the residue; half a jin of calamine, calcined seven times over mulberry wood fire, dipped seven times in the decoction of the previous four ingredients until it turns the color of a chicken’s egg, then ground into an extremely fine powder and washed with water;25 goose pears, mashed to a pulp; strain through a raw silk bag to remove the residue; half a jin of orpiment, washed with water; 2.5 jin of honey, 2.5 sheng of water, and a bunch of scallions—simmer until all the liquid has evaporated.Strain out the residue; take 15 pig pancreases, remove all fat, and use a large handful of grass-woven pants to pound them into a paste. Strain through a raw silk bag to remove the residue, then strain again. Combine with the decoction and simmer in a copper pot until it forms a thin paste. Add the following six ingredients: 1 liang each of rock salt and sodium carbonate, copper green (ground into an extremely fine powder),realgar, borax, and bear bile—each 5 qian—all ground into a fine powder. Add to the pot and simmer for another hour until it becomes a thick paste. Then add the final four ingredients: 3 qian of musk (ground with water into a fine paste), and 1 xian each of borneol, mercury oxide, and mercury sulfate (all ground into a fine powder).Continue simmering the mixture, gradually reducing the heat from high to low until it forms a paste over a very low flame. Remove from the pot and transfer to a porcelain container; bury it in the ground for one month to remove its fiery toxicity before use. After this period, dissolve the paste with milk.
