Drug Formulation

1 liang of well-steamed Rehmannia glutinosa (steamed 9 times), 1 liang of Atractylodes macrocephala (stir-fried in earth until charred), 3 qian of Astragalus membranaceus (raw), 5 qian of Angelica sinensis (washed with wine), 2 qian of black ginger, and 3 qian of Panax ginseng.

Benefits

For women with metrorrhagia due to deficient fire, accompanied by darkness in both eyes, fainting to the ground, and loss of consciousness.

Instructions for Use

Decoct in water and take orally. One dose will stop the hemorrhage; ten doses will prevent recurrence.

Note

If menorrhagia has persisted for several days, with blood loss amounting to several dou, and all six pulses are absent, though there is a faint breath in the nostrils, do not administer this formula immediately, as the patient’s vital energy may be on the verge of collapse and unable to tolerate such a potent tonic; for those with remaining strength, use 3 qian of Liaoning ginseng (stem removed), decoct it, mix in 1 qian of charred Guanzhong powder, and administer it. Wait until the patient’s breathing becomes slightly stronger before administering this formula, adding another 1 qian of charred Guanzhong powder—this will invariably be effective.For those who are weak: mix 3 qian of charred Guanzhong powder with ash-free yellow wine, drink it, and wait until their vital energy is restored and their mind is clear before taking this formula. Replace ginseng with Codonopsis, and add 1 qian of charred Guanzhong powder (stirred in) just before taking it.
