Drug Formulation

Sand from a deep pit dug many years ago (though the pit need not be open to the sky, it must be well-ventilated; one exposed to sunlight is ideal. The sand should be excavated from the edge of a stream-washed rock; a layer 3–4 cun thick is best. Place it in a clean tile trough indoors, where it is exposed to wind, rain, sunlight, and night dew. Turn it frequently; after 4–5 months, when both sides are white and the odor has disappeared, it is ready).

Grind the above into an extremely fine powder; for every liang, mix in 2–3 fen of cinnabar.
