Drug Formulation

Pi Xiao (previously refined and purified) 6 liang, Sichuan pepper (seeds removed) 6 liang, Smilax seed (husk removed) 6 liang, Huangxiang (i.e., rosin from which the pine resin has been removed) 3 jin, mung beans half a jin.

Processing

First, take half a jin of mung beans and 6 liang of Sichuan pepper, add 2 piao of water, and boil down to a thick decoction. Strain out the pepper and beans, retaining only the clear liquid. Boil for another incense stick’s duration, then add the yellow resin to the liquid. Boil for another two incense sticks’ duration, remove from heat, and stir in the Pi Xiao until evenly mixed. Transfer the mixture to a mortar, add the shelled Bi Ma seeds, and pound gradually until it forms a single block of ointment.

Instructions for Use

When ready to use, gauge the size of the mass, soften it with a hot water bath, and shape it into a single cake. First, rub a small amount of musk onto the skin to facilitate the penetration of the medicinal properties before applying the ointment. Cover the area with dog skin, then iron the ointment 3–5 times with a hot iron, and finally secure it with a silk bandage. Change the dressing every 3 days to eliminate the root cause of the disease.

Note

Avoid eating bitter greens, tofu, Chinese toon, bottle gourd, eggplant, chicken, fish, vinegar, and pork head meat.
