Processing

Cut each of the above herbs into coarse pieces. Soak them in 12 jin of pure sesame oil; soak for 3 days in summer and half a month in winter. Simmer until the mixture turns a black, charred color. Filter out the residue through a hemp cloth. Weigh the oil again; if it is 12 jin, add 5 jin of sifted orpiment; if it is 8 jin, add 4 jin. Weigh the orpiment according to the required amount. Return the oil to the pot to boil, gradually add the orpiment while stirring continuously with a locust or willow stick. Start with a gentle heat and gradually increase it; boil until a drop of oil forms a bead when dropped. The consistency should be firmer in spring and summer and softer in autumn and winter. Additionally, add 3 liang each of frankincense, myrrh, dragon bone, and mercury oxide, grind them into an extremely fine powder, store in a porcelain container, and add as needed.
