Drug Formulation

5 liang of arsenic trioxide, half a liang of sodium carbonate, 5 liang of white alum, and 2 liang of sulfur.

Processing

Grind each of the ingredients into a fine powder. First, prepare a porcelain jar with a tight-fitting lid. Wait for the clay to dry, then dig a pit one chi deep in the ground. Fill the pit with ash, place the jar in the center, spread a layer of sulfur evenly on the bottom, and then add the sodium carbonate, arsenic trioxide, and white alum.separately sift some lime and fill the bottle tightly with it; cover the bottle’s opening with a lid. Then gather about 20 jin of charcoal, place 3–5 liang of well-burned charcoal on top, and gradually heat it until it glows red; remove the fire and let it cool on its own. Once cooled, take it out, wrap it in silk, and suspend it in a well overnight to remove the heat toxicity. Grind it finely, then mix it with water-soaked steamed buns to form pills the size of millet grains.
