Processing
Use an accurate scale to weigh 2 jin 4 liang of sesame oil. First, add the hair to the oil and simmer for half an incense stick’s duration. Then add the aforementioned herbs to the oil and simmer until they turn a dark yellow color—do not let them become too dry. Immediately strain out the residue, add the previously prepared rosin, and simmer until melted. Strain out the cotton fibers again, then continue simmering until the oil’s surface forms a walnut-shell pattern. First, add 4 liang of extremely fine orpiment; then slowly add 1 jin of high-quality Western sulfur powder. When adding these two ingredients, be sure to sprinkle them in slowly; do not add too much too quickly. The mixture should be at a consistency where a drop of water forms a bead. Remove from heat and allow to cool to lukewarm, then mix in the fine medicinal powder and stir thoroughly. Store in a porcelain container. During the simmering process, use a mulberry branch to stir continuously. Spread the mixture onto blue cloth; each piece should contain 4 qian of the purified medicine.
