Drug Formulation

1 jin of Viola yedoensis, 1 jin of Polygonum aviculare (with mud and roots removed), 1 jin of wild hemp root, 1 jin of Xanthium strumarium (with roots and leaves), 1 jin of Houttuynia cordata, 1 whole pangolin (or 1 jin of cleaned pangolin scales), and 100 toad skins (or 100 dried toads, which is even better).

Processing

12 jin of genuine sesame oil: first, use 4 jin to decoct the pangolin scales until charred and dry; add the remaining herbs to 8 jin of oil, along with 2 bowls each of aged wine and scallion juice. Simmer over alternating high and low heat until the herbs are completely dried out, then strain out the residue and continue simmering until a drop of the mixture forms a bead when held up to the light;For every 1 jin of the medicinal oil, add 8 liang of Feidan. Adjust the cooking time according to the desired consistency, then remove from heat and stir continuously. Add 4 liang each of tooth soap, Wulingzhi (with sand removed), and rhubarb (all ground into powder); let it cool slightly, then stir in 4 liang of white glue incense (i.e., ground rue) while still warm to form a paste. Soak in water for 3–4 days before use.

Instructions for Use

For all sores, whether already broken or not, wash the affected area with a decoction of green onions and Sichuan pepper before applying the ointment; if the condition is severe at onset, cut out the center of the ointment, leaving the top intact to allow vapors to escape—there is no need to remove it. One application of the ointment can cure one toxin.

Note

When preparing the ointment, do not expose it to direct flame; it must be melted using a double boiler.
