Drug Formulation

Ginseng, Atractylodes macrocephala, Poria cocos, Pueraria lobata, Perilla frutescens, Pinellia ternata, Schizonepeta spica, Platycodon grandiflorus, Apricot kernel (with skin and tip removed), Ephedra (knots removed), Saposhnikovia divaricata, Tangerine peel, Licorice, Mulberry bark, Trifoliate orange peel, and Peucedanum praeruptorum—all in equal parts.

Processing

Grind the ingredients into a powder. For each dose, take 5 qian of the powder, add 3 slices of fresh ginger and 1 black plum, mix thoroughly with good-quality vinegar, and soak overnight. Squeeze out the vinegar, then stir-fry over low heat until dry, repeatedly mixing with the reserved vinegar until all the vinegar is absorbed. Once dry, grind into a very fine powder for use.

Instructions for Use

Take 1–2 qian per dose, mixed with the following decoction: For heart-related cough with facial flushing and sweating, add dried ginger decoction;For liver-type cough with tearing eyes, add black millet decoction; for lung-type cough with shortness of breath and chest congestion, add mulberry bark decoction; for spleen-type cough with loss of appetite, add ginger decoction; for gallbladder-type cough causing insomnia, add ginger juice mixed with plain broth; for cold-type cough, add scallion white decoction; for evening cough with thick, sticky nasal discharge and phlegm, add ginger decoction; for heat-type cough with eye distension and oppression, take with honey water;For a qi-type cough with distension and fullness in the chest and abdomen, add Qingpi Decoction; for a common cold with a runny nose, add Fangfeng-Jingjie Decoction; for phlegm congealed into lumps, add Schisandra Decoction; for a consumptive cough with emaciated and weak limbs, add Qin Jiao Decoction; for a bloody cough with continuous, unceasing coughing, add Angelica Decoction; for a postpartum cough with back pain, add Decoction of Beeswax.
