Processing

Decoct the above herbs in water to form a concentrated decoction. Strain out all sediment and impurities, clarify the liquid, and pour it into a bowl. Select high-quality sheep’s brain calamine (1 liang) and calcine it until red-hot; then quench it in the herbal decoction. Repeat this process of calcination and quenching three times. Leave the calamine immersed in the decoction, then seal the bowl tightly with paper to prevent dust from entering. After several days, when the mixture is completely dry, add the following: 2 fen of verdigris, 2 fen of bismuth subchloride, 3 fen of cinnabar (water-floated), 3 fen of realgar (water-floated), 5 fen of borax, 8 fen of borneol, and 3 fen of musk.
