Drug Formulation

3 liang of Leonurus japonicus (with flowers and seeds; avoid contact with iron), 5 qian of Angelica sinensis (fried with wine; avoid contact with iron), 5 qian of Paeonia lactiflora (fried with wine), 5 qian of Scutellaria baicalensis (fried with wine), 5 qian of Atractylodes macrocephala (fried with earth), 5 qian of Poria cocos (raw), 5 qian of Rehmannia glutinosa (fried with ginger), 5 qian of Rehmannia glutinosa (thoroughly processed; fried with ginger),Cyperus Rhizome 5 qian (soaked in children’s urine and salt water, sun-dried, lightly stir-fried), Guangmu Xiang 1 qian 5 fen (raw), Chuanxiong 5 qian, Amomum Fruit 2 qian 5 fen (stir-fried), Guang Juhong 5 qian (mixed with salt water), Licorice 2 qian 5 fen (raw),Wuyao 5 qian (raw), Ginseng 3 qian (doubling the dose yields even better results), Genuine Ejiao 2 qian 5 fen (stir-fried with clam powder until pearl-like), Whole Perilla 2 qian 5 fen (roots removed, used raw), Sichuan Achyranthes 2 qian, Amber 2 qian 5 fen (stir-fried with double the usual amount; simmered with Bi Zi until dry, then remove Bi Zi), Agarwood 5 qian.

Processing

Grind each of the above herbs into a fine powder, mix evenly, and divide into equal portions. Combine them, then use refined white honey to form pills weighing 2 qian each, coated with genuine Feijin powder.

Instructions for Use

For serious illnesses, take half a dose for complete recovery; for minor ailments, 3–5 pills will suffice. For those prone to miscarriages, it is especially advisable to prepare these pills to ensure a safe pregnancy. Follow the instructions below when taking the pills: for wheezing and cough, take with a decoction of apricot kernels and mulberry bark; for cough, take with a decoction of winterflower and Sichuan fritillary bulb; for vomiting, take with ginger decoction;for shortness of breath, take with Perilla Seed Decoction; for diarrhea, take with rice water; for generalized edema due to deficiency, take with Adzuki Bean Decoction; for jaundice with edema, take with Juncus and Akebia Decoction; for heart deficiency, take with Ophiopogon and Angelica Decoction; for generalized aches and pains, take with rice water; for breast pain, take with Dandelion and Honeysuckle Decoction; for irregular menstruation, take with Angelica and Rehmannia Decoction;For blood streaks in the stool, take with a decoction of Coptis and Raw Rehmannia; for shortness of breath, take with a decoction of Wood Fragrance; for dysentery with red and white discharge, take with a decoction of Chebulic Myrobalan, Cardamom, and Lotus Seed; for severe constipation, take with a decoction of Dried Tangerine Peel; for difficulty urinating, take with a decoction of Akebia and Rush; for red and white vaginal discharge, take with a decoction of Donkey-hide Gelatin and Mugwort; for amenorrhea, take with a decoction of Peach Kernel, Safflower, and Forsythia;For lower back and waist pain during menstruation, take with Fangfeng and Qianghuo Decoction; for fetal restlessness and vaginal bleeding, take with Ejiao Decoction; for fertility, take with Angelica sinensis, Atractylodes macrocephala, and Paeonia lactiflora Decoction; for transverse presentation and difficult labor, take with Winter Mallow Seed Decoction; for stabbing pain in the umbilical region and abdomen before delivery, fetal restlessness, and vaginal bleeding, take with Glutinous Rice Decoction;5–6 days before labor, take 1 pill daily, washed down with either plain boiled water or glutinous rice wine; this prevents postpartum complications. For inability to eat or drink after childbirth, take it with a decoction of Nanshan hawthorn and barley malt; for severe constipation after childbirth, take it with a decoction of Prunus mume seeds; for postpartum sepsis ascending to the heart and abdomen, causing chills and fever or spontaneous sweating, take it with a decoction of mint and perilla leaves, mixed with a child’s urine and glutinous rice wine;For postpartum stroke characterized by clenched jaws, hemiplegia, and loss of speech, take it with a child’s urine and glutinous rice wine; for mild postpartum menorrhagia, take it with glutinous rice soup; if the bleeding is profuse and unstoppable, take it with a decoction of Schizonepeta and Pollen of Arrowhead;For all postpartum ailments other than those treated with the “Yinzi” formula, take with a child’s urine and glutinous rice wine; aged wine from the capital may also be used. For prenatal and general health maintenance, take with boiling water. For the “Yinzi” formula, use 6 fen of one herb, 3 fen each of two herbs, or 2 fen each of three herbs; simmer in 1 zhong of water until reduced to 6 fen, then form into pills for oral administration.

Note

Avoid heavy meats, raw and cold foods, and greasy foods.
