Drug Formulation

1 rice bowl of reed root juice, 1 rice bowl of bamboo sap, 1 rice bowl of radish juice, 1 rice bowl of Chinese chive juice, 1 rice bowl of raw lotus root juice, 1 rice bowl of pear juice, 1 rice bowl of human milk, 1 rice bowl of children’s urine (must be clear and white), 1 rice bowl of good aged wine without ash, 1 small cup of ginger juice (optional), 6 qian of Sichuan fritillary bulb, 6 qian of white borax,6 qian of white Poria (ground into powder), 4 liang of Asparagus root, 4 liang of Ophiopogon tuber, 4 liang of Lycium bark, 1 liang of Alisma rhizome, 2 liang of Anemarrhena rhizome, and 2 liang of Phellodendron bark.

Processing

Take the six coarse herbs listed above and decoct them in ten large palace bowls of river water until reduced to four bowls. Strain out the residue, let the liquid settle, and filter it again through fine silk. Then add the previously prepared liquid and wine—making a total of ten ingredients—and simmer until the mixture is so thick that a drop of water does not disperse. Finally, add the three powdered ingredients (Fritillaria, Borax, and Asparagus) and cook until it forms a paste.
