Drug Formulation

1 liang of zinc oxide (processed with fire-refined stone), 1 liang of Ruiren (processed), 5 qian of amber (wrapped in new cloth, pounded to pieces, and ground into a fine powder), 5 qian of small pearls (lustrous ones, boiled in tofu broth, washed 3–4 times with warm water, wrapped in cloth, pounded to pieces, and ground into a fine powder), 5 qian of agate (heavily calcined),Coral (lightly calcined) 5 qian, Chequ (lightly calcined) 5 qian, Stone Crab (calcined again lightly, ground with hot water) 5 qian, Female Stone (calcined 7 times in vinegar) 5 qian, Male Stone (calcined 7 times in vinegar) 5 qian,200 sheets of gold leaf, 200 sheets of silver leaf (both processed, finely ground, and washed with water until they no longer scratch the teeth; then combine them, pound 100,000 times, and wrap the mixture tightly to prevent air from escaping), Schizonepeta 5 qian,Authentic Peppermint 5 qian, Cassia Seed 5 qian, Fangfeng 5 qian, Qianghuo 5 qian, White Chrysanthemum 5 qian, Equisetum 5 qian, Eupatorium 5 qian, Ruiren (oil removed) 5 qian.

Processing

Finely chop the nine ingredients listed from Schizonepeta onward. Add 3 large bowls of water and soak for 2–3 days. Decoct in water until it has boiled vigorously more than ten times. Pour off the liquid, remove the dregs, and clarify it, then boil down to a paste.Reserve 1 zhong of the liquid, add 1 zhong of milk, and boil together until reduced to 1 zhong. Mix in the previously prepared herbs, then pound the mixture vigorously until all the paste is thoroughly incorporated into the herbs; this is called the “Ten Thousand Pounds Paste.” Alternatively, pound it into large strips to make “Saibao Pills.”
