Cinnabar 5 liang (use bright red variety), Angelica sinensis 1 liang, Raw Rehmannia 1 liang, Ginseng 5 qian, Rhinoceros Horn (chopped) 5 qian, Coptis 4 qian, Atractylodes macrocephala 8 qian,Arctium lappa seeds 7 qian, Forsythia 7 qian, Pueraria root 4 qian, Cimicifuga 2 qian, Schizonepeta spikelets 4 qian, Phellodendron bark 4 qian, Ox bile 1 qian 5 fen, Licorice 4 qian.

Processing

Coarsely crush the ingredients. Break the cinnabar into pieces the size of mung beans, place them in a silk bag, and sew it shut. Add 2 bowls of wine, 10 bowls of water, and all 15 medicinal ingredients to an earthenware pot. Simmer over alternating low and high heat until the liquid is reduced to exactly 1 bowl. Strain thoroughly, mix in the cinnabar, and dry in the sun. Form into pills using a paste made from pig’s heart blood; each dry pill should weigh 5 fen. Coat the exterior with beeswax.

Instructions for Use

Whenever smallpox first appears, finely grind 1 pill and take it mixed with peppermint tea; the smallpox will immediately subside and the condition will improve.
