Drug Formulation

Realgar (ground) 1 liang, Realgar (ground) 1 liang, Cinnabar (ground) 1 liang, Sulfur (ground) 1 liang, Mercury 1 liang (first melt the sulfur over low heat in a cast-iron pot; then pour in the mercury, stir vigorously with a fire poker; as soon as flames rise, remove from heat and extinguish with a damp cloth; once cooled, scrape out the mixture and pound and grind it together with the above three ingredients);Take a Hunan-style medicinal pot. First, seal it with Liuyi clay and allow it to dry. Fill the pot with the powdered mixture, pressing it down firmly to level the surface. Seal the four seams of the lid with clay, leaving only a 1-cun gap unsealed;Heat it evenly over low heat for one fu-shi. Increase the heat until the pot glows red-hot; when smoke and flames emerge from the gap, quickly remove the fire and have someone press down on the lid to seal the gap completely with clay. Bury the pot in clean sifted soil to seal it tightly, ensuring no medicinal vapors escape, and cover it with a large basin;The next day, remove the medicine, pound it, and sift it. Wrap it in a heavy, damp silk cloth, bury it in clean, damp soil inside the basin, and seal it to remove the heat toxicity for three days and three nights. Each day, slightly sprinkle water on the basin. After the full period, retrieve the medicine, grind it again into a fine powder, and add the following medicinal powders: rhinoceros horn (pounded) 1 liang, deer antler (fried in ghee, hair removed) 1 liang,ox bile (ground) half liang, Indian saffron (ground) 1 liang, Cimicifuga root 1 liang, Gastrodia tuber 1 liang, dried scorpion (stir-fried in wine) 1 liang, donkey-hide gelatin (roasted over low heat until dry) 2 liang, Pinellia tuber (boiled in ox bile for one fu-shi, then sun-dried) 1 liang, and Frankincense half liang (except for the ground ingredients listed above, all others should be pounded, sifted, and ground into a fine powder).

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Steam large jujubes from Qingzhou until tender, remove the skins and pits, and grind into a paste to form pills the size of a tung tree seed (this formula should be prepared on the 3rd day of the 3rd month, the 5th day of the 5th month, or on the Day of the Winter Solstice).

Instructions for Use

Take 2–3 pills per dose; mix the powder with soybean-infused wine and ginger juice (after straining out the solids), pry open the mouth, and administer the mixture; take another dose after walking 5 li; take three consecutive doses until sweating occurs and the condition resolves.

Note

It is advisable to consume ginger wine and millet congee.
