Drug Formulation

Processing

Take 3 jin of fresh large maple seeds, remove the oily yellow parts and the shells, place them in a porcelain jar, add a small amount of ash-free liquor, wrap the opening tightly with layers of rice paper and bamboo leaves to prevent air from escaping, immerse the jar in boiling water without submerging the rim, cover the pot with a lid to seal it tightly, and steam over alternating high and low heat until the seeds are black and mushy. Pound them into oil, removing all residue, and divide the oil into three portions;To each portion, add 8 qian of Medicine No. 2, 6 qian of Medicine No. 1, and 1 liang 5 qian of Medicine No. 3. Mix thoroughly, then add glutinous rice and pound until extremely sticky to form pills the size of a Paulownia seed. Dry in the sun, keeping them away from fire.

Instructions for Use

Take 20 pills per dose, gradually increasing to 50–60 pills. Take one dose at cockcrow, at noon, and before bedtime, each time washed down with clear tea. For mild cases, one course of treatment is sufficient for recovery; for severe cases, 2–3 courses will eradicate the condition.

Note

Avoid sexual activity, salty and sour foods, alcohol and vinegar, fermented or pickled foods, pork, mutton, chicken, horse, and donkey meat, fish with a strong odor, fried or stewed dishes, fruits, the “Five Pungent Herbs,” ginger, pepper, and star anise, spicy and heating foods, buckwheat, mung beans, and similar items. Other meats may be consumed one year after recovery, but pork, mutton, and chicken must be avoided for life.
