Drug Formulation

20 branches of locust tree, 20 branches of willow, 20 branches of peach, 20 branches of elm, 20 branches of goji (tender branches, each 2 cun long), and 20 branches of mulberry (for the above six types of branches, peel off the tender bark; use 3 sheng of clear oil,simmer over low and high heat in a large earthenware pot until all the moisture from the tender bark has been extracted; then strain the oil), 1.5 liang of Angelica dahurica, 1.5 liang of Bletilla striata, 1.5 liang of Cynanchum atratum, 1.5 liang of Angelica sinensis, 1.5 liang of Rheum palmatum, 1.5 liang of Phellodendron amurense, 1.5 liang of Paeonia rubra,1.5 liang of Apricot Kernels, 1.5 liang of Castor Seeds (chop the above herbs into small pieces, soak them in the oil until thoroughly saturated, then simmer over low heat; remove the herb residue and strain the oil again.Add 12 liang of orpiment in three separate batches, simmering in the oil until it turns black; the mixture is ready when a strand dipped in the medicated oil does not disperse when dropped into water), 5 qian of dragon’s blood, 5 qian of realgar, 5 qian of frankincense, 5 qian of myrrh, and 3 qian of mercury oxide.

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into an extremely fine powder. Place it in slightly warm oil, transfer the mixture to a clay jar, cover the opening, and bury it in the ground for 3 days to remove the toxic properties of the heat.
