Drug Formulation

5 qian of Scutellaria baicalensis (dried), 5 qian of Astragalus membranaceus, 5 qian of Citrus aurantium peel, 3 qian of dried tangerine peel (white pith removed), 8 black plums (pitted),2 liang of Chebulic Myrobalan bark (roasted), 16 pieces of Trichosanthes seed (shelled), 16 hawthorn fruits, 24 peach kernels, 5 qian of Safflower, a pinch of musk, 3.5 qian of Acorus tatarinowii (roasted), 3.5 qian of Curcuma zedoaria (roasted),3 qian of areca nut, 3 qian of white cardamom, 3 qian of Phellodendron bark, 3 qian of soapberry (peeled and string removed), 1 liang of Angelica sinensis root tips, 3.5 qian of myrrh, 2.5 qian of frankincense, 5 qian of kelp, 0.5 fen of croton seed powder, 2.5 qian of licorice, and 16 pangolins (roasted with vinegar until golden brown).

Processing

Exclude musk, myrrh, frankincense, and croton seed powder from the above list. Grind all the remaining herbs (away from iron utensils) into an extremely fine powder. Use 14 liang of clear fragrant oil and 2 liang of beeswax; boil until it comes to a boil several times. Then add the herbal powder to a sand pot and simmer until it does not disperse even when a drop of water is added. Only then add the four ingredients—musk, myrrh, frankincense, and croton seed powder—and transfer the mixture to a porcelain jar.
