Drug Formulation

Anemarrhena rhizome 1 fen, Asarum root 1 fen, Gypsum (calcined) 1 fen, White ginger (roasted until cracked) 1 fen, Dragon’s blood (finely ground) 1 fen, Scutellaria root 1 fen, Astragalus root (washed, soaked in honey water overnight, then roasted) 1 fen,Cinnamon Bark (peeled, not exposed to fire) 1 fen, Myrrh (ground) 1 fen, Sichuan Angelica (stem removed, washed) 1 fen,Fritillaria bulb 1 fen, raw Rehmannia root (thoroughly washed) 1 fen, Fangfeng (root base removed) 1 fen, licorice 1.5 fen (roasted), rice (stir-fried until slightly yellow) 3 fen, black beans (lightly stir-fried) 3 fen, hemp seeds (stir-fried on a tile) 3 fen, Sichuan pepper (seeds removed, stir-fried until sweat is released) half liang, Dendrobium (thoroughly washed, chopped, soaked in honey water overnight) half liang.

Processing

Grind each of the above herbs into a fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills; it is best to pound the mixture thoroughly with a pestle. Make 5 pills from 1 liang of the mixture.

Instructions for Use

During the 2nd–3rd month of pregnancy, take 1 pill divided into 3 doses, chewed thoroughly and washed down with warm wine; for irregular menstrual cycles, take with Angelica sinensis wine; for difficult labor, fetal death in utero, transverse or breech presentation, retained placenta, or loss of consciousness with inability to speak—provided there is still a pulse at the heart—dissolve the pill in warm jujube decoction and administer orally;For postpartum pain caused by retained lochia, take with wine mixed with the liquid from roasted soybeans; “Aversion to cold, high fever, vomiting, hemiplegia, dizziness, menorrhagia, persistent leukorrhea, delirium, loss of appetite, and progressive jaundice and emaciation—all should be taken with wine.”
