Drug Formulation

1 fen of Yangqishi (crushed), 1 fen of White Ocher (ground together), half a liang of White Alum, half a liang of Arsenic (the two ingredients ground together into a powder), and half a liang of White Lead.

Processing

Place the ingredients in a sand box: first, spread Yangqishi evenly across the bottom of the box; next, add white alum and arsenic; finally, cover with white ochre. Seal the box with salt mud, allow it to dry, then calcine over a charcoal fire (5 jin) until it turns completely red. Once the fire has died down, bury the box in a pit overnight before retrieving it. Grind the contents finely together with white lead, then mix with a paste made from boiled glutinous rice flour to form pills the size of a sesame seed.

Instructions for Use

Take 1 pill per dose; for cholera with vomiting and diarrhea, swallow it with cold running water; for dysentery with red and white discharge, swallow it with cold rice water.

Note

Avoid hot foods for one shichen.
