Drug Formulation

2.5 jin of asphalt, 2 liang of Wilfordia root, 100 castor seeds (shelled and ground), 28 toadstool seeds (shelled and ground to a paste), 1 liang of frankincense (roasted with bamboo shoot leaves and ground to a powder), 1 liang of myrrh (ground to a powder), 2 liang of beeswax,1 jin of fresh ginger (pounded to yield 1 bowl of juice), and sesame oil (2 liang in summer, 3 liang in spring and fall, 4 liang in winter; first simmer with the Weilingxian, strain out the residue, and continue heating until the mixture does not disperse even when a drop of water is added).

Processing

Take the asphalt and grind it into a fine powder. Place it in a pot with the two juices and simmer until melted. When the two juices have nearly evaporated, reduce the heat. Stir continuously with peach and willow twigs until well blended, then add the Lingxian oil mixture and continue simmering. Next, add the Mu Bie Zi and castor seeds, pound them until smooth, and stir them into the mixture. Finally, add the frankincense, myrrh, and beeswax, stir well, and the ointment is ready.

Instructions for Use

Each time, apply the ointment using a thick piece of silk paper. First, rub the affected area with ginger, then apply the ointment, and immediately warm it by pressing a heated shoe sole against it. For diarrhea and dysentery, apply it to the lower abdomen; for coughs and hemoptysis, apply it to the back; for chest pain, apply it to the chest.
