Drug Formulation

1 liang of Bai Lian, 1 liang of Bai Ji, 1 liang of Mu Bie Zi Ren, 1 liang of Xiang Bai Zhi, 1 liang of Guan Gui, 1 liang of Apricot Kernels, 1 liang of Dang Gui, 1 liang of Frankincense, 1 liang of Myrrh, half a liang of Osmanthus Flowers, 1 pill of Su He Xiang, 2.5 jin of Huang Dan, 5 jin of genuine sesame oil, half a jin of locust tree twigs, and half a jin of willow twigs.

Processing

Coarsely chop the ingredients. Except for frankincense, myrrh, yellow丹, and the Suhexiang pill—which should be ground separately—soak the remaining herbs in the oil for 5 days in spring and autumn, 3 days in summer, and 7 days in winter.Before winter, reduce the amount of real cinnabar by 3 liang. Soak the mixture in a new iron pot until the required time has elapsed, then simmer over alternating low and medium heat, stirring continuously. Once the locust and willow twigs have turned black, remove all the dregs, allow the mixture to cool slightly, and add the frankincense, myrrh, and storax pill. Simmer the mixture again, stirring constantly,simmer gently until it boils 2–3 times, then let it cool slightly. Add all the realgar, bring it to a rolling boil over alternating low and high heat, remove from heat, and let it boil again. Repeat this process 5–6 times, stirring continuously for over 1,000 times, until the smoke turns entirely black and the mixture does not disperse when a drop of water is added. Do not overcook under any circumstances.
