Drug Formulation

Poria cocos (remove black skin; grind separately into powder) 4 liang, Chrysanthemum flowers (steam for one fu-shi, continuously sprinkling with wine; sun-dry; grind separately into powder) 4 liang,Acorus (grown on rock; soaked in wine for 3 days, steamed for 1 day, then dried in the sun; ground into powder separately) 4 liang, Cinnamon (peeled; use the best inner part; ground into powder separately) 4 liang, Asparagus Root (core removed, dried in the oven) 1 jin,Atractylodes macrocephala (sliced; the white variety may be used) 1 jin, Ginseng 1 jin, Achyranthes root 1 jin (crushed; soak each in a mixture of water and wine totaling 1 dou for 3 days; squeeze out the concentrated juice, filter out the residue, and simmer each separately in a silver vessel over low heat until it becomes a paste), Raw Polygonatum 5 jin, Raw Rehmannia root 5 jin (crush both ingredients to extract the juice; simmer in a silver vessel over low heat until it becomes a paste).

Processing

Of the 10 ingredients listed above, first extract the juice from each of the lower 6 ingredients one by one; stop heating when the volume is reduced to half a jin. Then combine the 6 pastes to make a total of 3 jin. Mix this thoroughly with the powdered form of the first 4 ingredients, dry in the sun, then mix in the paste again until uniform. Finally, pound the mixture in a mortar with a pestle to form pills the size of a Paulownia seed.
