Drug Formulation

Half a jin of soapberry (remove the skin and strings; clean thoroughly; coat the soapberries with honey; roast thoroughly over low heat; then pound into a fine powder).

Processing

Soak in hot water for one hour, squeeze out the juice, strain out the residue, and simmer over low heat until it forms a paste; let cool, stir in a small amount of musk, mix thoroughly, spread on cotton paper, dry in the sun, and cut into square paper flowers.

Instructions for Use

Take 2–3 pieces at a time, soak them in about one small cup of warm, lightly salted water. After a short while, strain out the medicinal liquid and use a thin reed tube to instill it into the patient’s nose. Phlegm and saliva will flow out continuously; once they have completely drained, have the patient eat one sesame cake. Administer the medicine slowly and carefully. Have the patient lie supine at the edge of the bed; turning to one side facilitates the expulsion of phlegm and makes the process more efficient. Once all phlegm and saliva have been expelled, the patient will be cured.
